Free audio books for people in Sussex who may be struggling to read (printed) books
Written by DueEast Site ManagerWe provide an audiobook lending service for anyone with an illness, disability, learning difficulty, or mental health condition, who finds that it affects their ability to read, or hold books in the usual way. We know that many older people who may feel isolated at home can benefit from the enjoyment of listening to our free audiobooks. We currently have some free memberships available for people living in the Sussex area, who might benefit from joining our service, but would find our usual membership fees a potential barrier.

This covers what you need to know in your first few days, getting used to life in the UK, including how to find a home, access essential public services, healthcare, find work and childcare and education services. Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) are campaigning to ensure road users think of a safe and legal way to travel during festive celebrations.
Throughout December, SSRP will be working with Sussex Police to prevent and detect incidents of drink and/or drug driving, providing motorists with thought provoking information on the risk and impact of driving whilst under the influence.
Road users will be encouraged to think about alternative modes of travel during the festive period, such as nominating a designated driver, booking a taxi, or walking home with friends. Motorists are also reminded of the effect of alcohol or drugs the morning after, and are encouraged to consider the impact if stopped or involved in a collision whilst over the limit.

Through our community meetings, we agree on the priorities for our community and we work together to achieve that. We recognize that we are neighbours as well as volunteers.

The newsletter this time is focusing on Autumn activities and how these fun times can be used to help support local people in these trying times.
But more importantly the newsletter is to celebrate the fantastic work of local people in seeing each other through this nightmare that we have been plunged into.
We hope you will find interesting information about where you or someone you know might go to find the help that makes a difference.
West Sussex County Council, in partnership with Get Safe Online, is starting a search for volunteers to become part of a new group of ‘Digital Ambassadors’.
Once accepted on to the scheme, these Ambassadors will receive a series of specially tailored training sessions, delivered by experts from Get Safe Online, to help them educate and support their local communities to become safer online.
This could include one-to-one advice sessions, giving out leaflets or even hosting a webinar where the volunteer could share tips on how people can use the internet safely.

As of Wednesday 8 September 659,105 people over 16 in West Sussex have had one dose of the vaccine. That's 85.5% of the 16+ population.
Everyone is still able to come forward for a vaccination – there is no time limit. If you are yet to have your first dose please visit a walk-in service to receive your vaccine.

Moving in lines and clusters, dancing looped sequences that describe, epitomise & reflect how we all move around the city: scooting, skating, walking, running, cycling, driving, riding…. A playful, fun and collaborative exchange; to dance in each other’s shoes and start a conversation about how we move around the city: access (and barriers) to transport, its impact on the environment and our health.
Join us for a free dance workshops in September, take part in the conversation and co-create a brand-new dance piece to be performed on Brighton Car Free Day!

Since the start of the pandemic East Brighton Trust has responded through our grant giving to a range of emergency situations caused by the Covid crisis. Throughout 2020 we awarded a significant amount of grants totalling over £60,000, directing these where they were most needed and benefiting thousands of people across East Brighton. Like many businesses, we have been impacted by the pandemic and have seen a reduction in our earnings. This has affected the amount of funds we are able to distribute.
We have therefore decided to limit our small grants awards to Summer and Winter grants of £500 for the 2021/22 financial year. We will not be accepting ad hoc grants outside of the small grants process.
This will enable us to reach as many groups as possible across East Brighton.
